Certified Safety Specialist (CSS)

The Certified Safety Specialist (CSS) course is a comprehensive training program designed for individuals who are interested in advancing their careers in the field of workplace safety. The course covers a wide range of topics, including safety management, hazard identification and control, accident investigation, safety program development, and OSHA regulations.

Participants will learn how to develop and implement effective safety programs, conduct thorough accident investigations, and identify and control hazards in the workplace. The course also covers the latest industry standards and best practices in workplace safety and provides attendees with the tools and resources needed to succeed in their safety careers.

Learning outcomes:

• Understanding of safety regulations and standards: The CSS program covers the latest OSHA regulations, ANSI standards, and industry best practices in safety management, providing you with a comprehensive understanding of the field.
• Ability to identify and assess workplace hazards: Upon completion of the CSS program, you will have the skills to identify potential hazards in the workplace and assess their level of risk.
• Knowledge of safety management systems: The CSS program covers the principles and practices of safety management systems, including how to develop, implement, and maintain them.
• Understanding of incident investigation and analysis: You will learn how to conduct effective investigations into workplace incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
• Knowledge of emergency response planning: The CSS program covers the principles and practices of emergency response planning, including how to develop and implement effective emergency response plans for the workplace.

Mode of delivery: 

Training sessions will be conducted online through Microsoft Team Meetings/Zoom.

Training should emphasize the following contents:

• Fundamentals of Occupational Safety and Health: This module will provide an overview of the principles and concepts of occupational safety and health, including the legal and regulatory framework, and the role of safety specialists in promoting a safe and healthy work environment.
• Safety Management Systems: This module will cover the development, implementation, and maintenance of safety management systems, including the use of best practices and standards.
• Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification: This module will cover the process of identifying and evaluating potential hazards in the workplace, including the use of tools and techniques for risk assessment and hazard identification.
• Safety Training and Education: This module will cover the importance of training and education in promoting safety in the workplace, including the development and delivery of effective safety training programs.
• Accident Investigation and Analysis: This module will cover the process of investigating and analyzing accidents in the workplace, including the use of root cause analysis and incident investigation techniques.
• Emergency Planning and Response: This module will cover the importance of emergency planning and response in the workplace, including the development of emergency plans and procedures, and the role of safety specialists in emergency management.
• Safety Auditing and Inspection: This module will cover the process of auditing and inspecting the workplace to identify hazards and non-compliance with safety regulations, including the use of audit and inspection tools and techniques.
• Safety in Special Environments: This module will cover specific safety issues and considerations in unique environments such as hazardous materials, construction sites, and healthcare facilities.
• Occupational Health and Wellness: This module will cover the importance of promoting the physical and mental health and well-being of workers, including the identification and control of health hazards in the workplace.
• Professional Development and Ethics: This module will cover the importance of professional development and ethical conduct for safety specialists, including the maintenance of professional certifications and adherence to professional codes of conduct.

All students must achieve a minimum 70% score to successfully pass the examination which shall be taken online through AISP assigned portal. After successful completion of the examination, students will get their results immediately on their registered emails. This is an open-book exam and students are permitted to use a separate browser window to review course content while taking the exam. If you do not pass the examination you may retake the examination. Students are allowed to take an exam three times within one month. During this time, students should review the course material to improve their understanding.

This course is designed to help you reach your goals at your own pace and on your schedule. Instructional contact time must be a minimum of 8 hours. Most students intend to complete their studies via online learning within 1 month.
